Game Preview

It has been a domestic campaign to forget for West Ham, as they remain in danger of suffering relegation to the second tier. The Hammers have won just six of their 26 league matches this term, with only one of their wins coming in the previous six matches. Since a win against Bournemouth, West Ham has gone two without victory.

Their home form could be a saving grace this term, as they have won five of the 13 games that they have played at the London Stadium. They are also unbeaten in their previous four home matches, which includes the 1-1 draw that they picked up against Aston Villa in their previous game on March 12.

Southampton remains at the bottom of the Premier League standings, having played at least a game more than the majority of the sides above them. The Saints have seen an upturn in form since the arrival of Ruben Selles, as they have picked up eight points from their previous six matches.

They have lost just once in their last three. Over that period, they have held both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to draws. Playing away from home has suited the Saints this term, as they have recorded four of their six wins away from St Mary’s. Meanwhile, the Saints recorded a victory in this exact fixture last term to end an eight-game wait for victory against the Hammers.

Prediction

This is a really challenging match to call on Sunday, as both sides will be desperate for the points. However, we will be siding with Southampton, as they have performed well in recent games since the arrival of Selles, with their away form being particularly interesting. Not for the first time, we could see James Ward-Prowse playing a key role.
