Game Preview

Princeton pulled off a stunner against 2-seed Arizona, claiming their first tournament win in over 20 years. For the first time in NCAA history, three straight tourneys have had a 15-seed that won a first-round game, and the Tigers have an opportunity to make it the 3rd straight tourney where a 15-seed makes the Sweet 16 with a win here. They’ll need to find a way to slow Missouri’s potent offense.

Missouri got a great win against Utah State in the first round, making a statement against the metrics. Despite ranking about 40 spots lower in NET and KenPom, the Tigers won with ease, proving that there’s more to the game than just computer rankings. Missouri was also the Vegas underdog, but proved many people wrong. We picked them to make the Sweet 16, and have been well rewarded.

Picks

We get a rare 15 vs 7 matchup in the second round here, as well as a battle of the Tigers. It’s tempting to pick Princeton to win here, especially after seeing what Oral Roberts and St. Peter’s did in 2021 and 2022. I expect Princeton to keep it close for a while, but ultimately see them losing. They rank just outside of the top-100 in defense, which is a bad matchup for Missouri’s top-10 offense.
