Royal Ascot: Gold Cup (Group 1)

Cross Counter+600
Moonlight Spirit+1200
Nayef Road+1200
Prince Of Arran+2500

The Ascot Gold Cup is one of the most prestigious race in the world for stayers on the flat, and takes place over two miles and three furlongs. Horses that are aged four and over are able to take part in the prestigious event. The first Ascot Gold Cup took place in 1807, and over the years there have been some prestigious winners of this race. The roll of winners includes Yeats, who is the only horse to have won the race on four occasions, and Order of St George. Stradivarius has won the last two runnings of this race.

This six-year-old for John Gosden has been one of the stars of the flat season for years in England. Between 2018 and 2019, Stradivarius won ten straight races, which included four Group One’s. Recent form may be a small concern for gamblers with Kew Gardens having beaten Stradivarius at Ascot last year, and Ghaiyyath beating him by five lengths earlier this month. However, the fact that Kew Gardens has pulled out of the race will be pivotal.

Cross Counter has been beaten by Stradivarius twice in the past two years, but Technician does come into this race with some form. He has won two out of two but whether he will be able to deal with the step up in quality remains to be seen. Nayef Road could also present good each-way value.

Royal Ascot: Jersey Stakes (Group 3)

King Leondias+333
Lord Of The Lodge+700
Monarch Of Egypt+700
Final Song+1000

The other graded action at Ascot on day three will come in the form of the Jersey Stakes. This Group 3 event will feature horses aged three and over, and will be ran over seven furlongs. There have been some eye catching winners over the past ten years, with Dutch Connection, Ribchester and Expert Eye all tasting success.

This years event is wide open with all the leaders in the market having some kind of form behind them. King Leondias will be the favourite after winning his last two at Newmarket, while Monarch Of Egypt and Celestin have both had victories over the past 12 months. Mister Snowdon has won his last two, but this will be a big step up in competition. The preference would be for Final Song, who impressed in the 1,000 Guineas last time out.
