Two big derbies took place in the Italian Serie A tonight. In Naples, the home team defeated Juventus, while it the Derby Della Capitale, Roma and Lazio played without winners.
Napoli Surprisingly Defeats Juve, 2-1
Just a few expected to see this outcome, and even some of the hosts’ die-hard fans thought that getting three points might be a bit unrealistic. However, Piotr Zielinski and Lorenzo Insigne shined in the second half with both guys delivering a goal each.
They would snap a five-game winning streak of the champions who missed a chance to pull away from Inter and Lazio in the standings after this weekend’s results. Inter played 1-1 at home and the same score was seen in the capital where Roma and Lazio played.
The first half wasn’t interesting at all, and although the hosts had a slight edge, they couldn’t do anything noticeable. It was evident that the guests played a bit below expectations and that their game, in general, was slower than usual.
What might have been the key moment of the event is Miralem Pjanic’s injury, and the Bosnian midfielder and Juve’s brain had to go out shortly after the start of the second period. He suffered a harsh tackle of Napoli’s Diego Demme shortly before the pause.
Juventus was better in the opening 15 minutes, but the goal was scored on the other side. Insigne’s shot was stopped by Szczesny, but Zielinski netted on the rebound. One of Insigne’s attempts ended behind Szczesny, four minutes before the end. It was a mark for the celebration at San Paolo to start.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo‘s goal in the last minute calmed down the euphoria, but that didn’t last for too long, because the game ended soon enough.
Roma and Lazio Play 1-1
Derby Della Capitale saw two massive mistakes of the goalkeepers, which eventually led to only goals in this contest. At first, Edin Dzeko scored after a cardinal error of Tomas Strakosha in the 26th minute.
However, Roma’s goalkeeper Pau Lopez responded in the same way just eight minutes later. He allowed Francesco Acerbi to level the result, and to give the momentum to the Sky-Blues. Lazio didn’t manage to use it, and they stopped, allowing Roma to have the control of the court once again.
Throughout this contest, the nominal hosts had 16 shots on goal, but just one went in. Cengiz Under was unstoppable down the right flank. The Turk will no doubt be a hot good on the market next summer if he continues to play like this.
Dzeko had a chance in the 88th minute to strike, but Strakosha redeemed for his tragic reaction int he first half. On the other side, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s shot in the 83rd minute went near the post, and that was the best chance for Lazio to do something bigger here.
Right now, Juventus is still first in the standings with 51 points, Inter has 48, while Lazio sits third with 46 and with a game in hand. Roma is fifth with 39, Atalanta fifth 38.
