FA Cup: Sheffield United vs Wrexham FC Prediction, Preview, and Odds (Feb 7)

  • Sheffield United heavily favored to make home advantage count
  • Blades have progressed from seven of their previous eight meetings against non-league opposition

The betting for Sheffield United vs Wrexham FC doesn’t indicate that another Hollywood script will be written by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in the FA Cup this term. But, could the National League side defy odds of +410 and reach the fifth round of the FA Cup?

Wrexham FC has been no strangers to attention since the takeover of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and they will be hoping that their side can produce a memorable FA Cup upset on Tuesday. However, it will be a daunting task against Premier League-bound Sheffield United, who haven’t lost a game since November 8.

Game Preview

Wrexham’s story is one that has already reached all four corners of the globe, given the popularity of the club’s owners. However, the FA Cup has been an excellent opportunity this season to show exactly why they are flying high in the National League.

An away trip against Championship opposition isn’t likely to be a daunting prospect for the Welsh club, as they have already knocked out Coventry away from home in the competition this season. However, there is already a sense that their best opportunity to eliminate the Blades may have passed them by, as the Championship side netted a 95th-minute equalizer at the Racecourse Ground a few weeks ago.

Sheffield United’s main aim this term will center around a return to the Premier League, and they already look good value to achieve that. At present, they sit ten points clear of third in England’s second-tier, and they have avoided defeat in their previous nine domestic fixtures.

The Blades were made to sweat for a replay, as John Egan scored a dramatic late equalizer to force the replay. But, their chances of progression are certainly aided by the fact that they have progressed from seven of eight previous meetings against non-league opposition.

Prediction

Wrexham certainly looks good value to earn promotion to the Football League this term. However, we expect their Hollywood story in the FA Cup to come to an end on Tuesday. We expect both teams to score, but the Blades have more than enough quality in the final third to secure their spot in the next round, setting up a tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
