The final round of the group phase of the 2022 World Cup starts today. Four games are on the program, each of which could be decisive for the teams involved. We’ll now preview all of them, starting with the one that will decide which Group A team goes to the knockouts.
Ecuador vs Senegal

Ecuador or Senegal – which team will get to the next stage of the 2022 World Cup? The answer is: the one that does better in this game.
Ecuador are currently second in Group A with 4 points. That’s the same number as the Netherlands, who play Qatar. Spoiler alert: the Dutch are going to beat the World Cup hosts.
Both Ecuador and Senegal need to assume the Dutch will win. In that case, the Ecuador vs Senegal game will decide which team gets to the knockouts. Senegal are one point behind Ecuador, meaning that they’re the ones who need to be on the front foot in this game.
The problem is that Senegal just aren’t great in the offense when Sadio Mane is absent. Another problem is that Ecuador are great at the back with an average of 0.58 goals conceded per game in 2022. And keep in mind that this year they’ve played against such teams as Brazil, Argentina, and the Netherlands.

Netherlands vs Qatar

Even though Louis van Gaal’s team is top of Group A at the moment, there’s a scenario in which the Dutch can miss the knockouts. If Senegal beat Ecuador (or the two play a draw), and the Dutch lose heavily to Qatar, they’re going to finish third.
Of course, such a scenario is very, very unlikely to happen. The thing is that the Netherlands are simply way better than Qatar. Sure, the Dutch weren’t very impressive in the first two games of the World Cup, but we think they’re going to destroy Qatar today.

Iran vs USMNT

The situation in Group A is very similar to the one in Group A. Iran and the United States are going to battle for the playoff berth. Iran are coming into the game in a slightly better situation.
After getting obliterated by England in Round 1, they defeated Wales. As a result, they now have one point more than USMNT who played two draws.
Iran did beat Wales, but they scored their two goals after the Dragons’ goalie Wayne Hennessey got sent off in the 86th minute. That said, they can count themselves lucky for winning three points. But we doubt luck will be on their side today. The Americans are better than them, not to mention that they’re super-motivated to win.

Wales vs England

After a superb display in the first round when they destroyed Iran 6-2, England played a boring 0-0 draw with the US. In Round 3, they’re playing against Wales, and this time, there should be more excitement on the pitch.
Depending on how Iran vs USMNT game ends, England might need a win against Wales to make sure they get to the knockouts from the no.1 position in Group B. The good news for their fans is that they definitely have the manpower to do so.
