Maple Leafs Looking To Get Back To Winning Ways
It has been a strange season for the Toronto Maple Leafs. They are currently sitting third in the Atlantic Division, but they haven’t found any consistency at any point throughout the season. The arrival of Sheldon Keefe has at least steadied the ship, but they still aren’t getting the wins on the board. Over their last ten games, they have won five and lost four. They are among the highest scorers in the league, as they have hit the net 205 times, but their weak defence is costing them.
They go into their game in Ottawa off the back of a defeat, which ended any momentum the Leafs may have had from their overtime success against the Arizona Coyotes. That defeat came against the Dallas Stars at the Scotiabank, as the visitors ran out 3-2 winners. Zach Hyman and Auston Matthews got the goals for the Leafs, but they were once again made to pay for defensive issues. It looks as though it will be another season without a Stanley Cup run for the Leafs.
Senators Hoping For Second Win
In some ways, this could be a good game for the Ottawa Senators. They haven’t managed to find any consistency so far this season, but at least their results are improving over recent weeks. They are still second bottom of the Atlantic Division, but they have won three of their last ten games in regulation time. They have no chance of reaching the playoffs, but they can at least end the season in strong form to give their fans some hope for next season.
The Senators go into this fixture having won their last outing in the NHL against the Coyotes. That win ended a skid of six defeats on the bounce. During that skid, the Senators also lost to the Maple Leafs. However, it was a welcome 3-2 success in their last game, and that will give them hope. The Senators scored twice in the opening period, before adding their third in the final period. Vladislav Namestnikov, Nick Paul and Brady Tkachuk got the goals for the Senators.
Senators vs Leads Head To Head
The Senators hold the narrow advantage in the overall record between the sides as they have won on 48 occasions, compared to the 47 wins recorded by the Maple Leafs. Both sides have won four meetings in overtime, while the Leafs have won three more times in the shootout. The Leafs and Senators also average three goals each in this fixture.
This is a meeting that could easily go either way. Gamblers never know which Maple Leafs we are going to see, and that’s what makes them a very hard team to beat on. However, one thing is for sure, there will be goals in this match.
