By Ā· 74 days ago
  • UConn dominated Arkansas in the 3rd round, winning 88-65.
  • Gonzaga came from behind late to take down UCLA, 79-76.
  • These two teams last met on November 27, 2015, in a game that Gonzaga won 73-70.

UConn (28-8) and Gonzaga (31-5) match up in a classic dog fight between Bulldogs and Huskies. Both teams have been playing at elite levels, and the winner here could wind up winning the entire tourney.

Game Preview

UConn absolutely clobbered Arkansas in their Sweet 16 game, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. They’ve now won each of their first three tourney games by 15 points or more, a feat similar to how they started the season. If the Huskies can keep this up, they could very well win it all. Adam Sonogo continues to lead the way, averaging 23.3 ppg and 9.7 rpg in the tourney thus far.

Gonzaga trailed UCLA by 13 points at halftime before surging back into the game to eventually win it. They nearly allowed the Bruins to reclaim the game at the very end, but won it on a clutch 3-pointer from Julian Strawther, who finished the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Star F Drew Timme also earned a double-double in the win, racking up 36 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

Picks

This should be a fantastic game between two stellar teams. I expect this to come down to the wire much like Gonzaga vs UCLA, with several lead changes late. Ultimately, I’ll stick with my original bracket’s picks, which saw UConn defeating Gonzaga in this game and advancing to the Final 4. I had UConn winning it all, and still see that as a real possibility, with this being one of their toughest tests.
