The upcoming fight on Saturday, July 11 between Amanda Ribas (9-1-0) and Paige VanZant (8-4-0) pits two female fighters in the Main Card of the UFC 251. Both have shown talent, but Ribas is priced as the absolute favorite in this bout with (-820). VanZant, on the other hand, has a long-shot chance of winning priced at (+520).
So, the question is, can the American throw an upset that would completely defy bookies’ logic and offer value for those who were smart enough to see it coming? To answer this, we take a look at both fighters short, but interesting careers so far.
UFC 251: Amanda Ribas vs Paige VanZant Odds
Ribas is on a trajectory to the top, with the Brazilian debuting as a professional fighter in the strawweight category in June, 2019. She has already clocked several convincing victories, defeating Whitmire, Dern and Markos most recently in March 2020.
Amanda Ribas is a true fighter with nine career victories and a single loss suffered to P. Viana in 2015. Since her return, however, she has been steadfast and determined to succeed.
Meanwhile, Paige VanZant has been a rather mixed fighter. While she clearly has punching power and grit, she is also busy modelling on Instagram and participating in various other formats. Her fighting comes almost last, and she has already lost three out of her five bouts.
She lost by either Submission or Unanimous Decision and given that stats, it’s rather to be expected that her (+520) odds are somewhat fair.

- Date: Saturday, July 11
- Time: 10 p.m. ET
- Venue: Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
VanZant: A Pretty Face or a Tough Fighter?
VanZant has definitely spend no small amount of time shaping her media persona, establishing a footprint on television, popular culture and the Internet. The odds and her stats are definitely against her in the upcoming bow, but VanZant has been putting a lot of effort to consistently improve.
She has said on numerous occasions that MMA fighting has saved her life and gave her a purpose, which she appreciates. Now, Amanda Ribas is a much more determined and aggressive fighter and one that shows little compassion for her fellow fighters while in the octagon.
On the other hand, VanZant seems a tough nut to crack, and while she’s been submitted on two occasions in her last two fights, she can definitely go the distance and then some.

VanZant, on the other hand, has not been able to go the distance in the majority of her last fights. She needs to put more work if she wants to last longer, but then again, this may not be necessary.
