Dana White recently revealed the main card for the UFC 251, which is to take place at the fight Island in Abu Dhabi. The highlight of this even is the bout between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns.
Usman Defending the Title Against Burns
The competition in the welterweight division is arguably the fiercest in the entire UFC. The title-holder Kamaru Usman has been searching for the fight opponent for a long time, and it seems that the organization found him a decent one.
Gilbert Burns, Durinho, as the fans call him, will show up across the octagon at the UFC 251 in September and try to maintain his excellent record, which now stands at 19 wins and three losses.
Burns got this opportunity after dismantling Tyron Woodley, the former champion in this division, against whom Usman won the belt in the first place. The Brazilian was very dominant and was more than convincing in the octagon, and the organization decided to give his a shot at the title.
Previously, Jorge Masvidal was the No.1 option for Usman’s opponent, because Gamebred established himself as the next best thing in the division. However, he allegedly declined to meet the Nigerian Nightmare, but aimed to book another fight with Nate Diaz.
Once meeting Diaz, he was very upset after receiving the news that Burns got the challenger spot, and went publicly against that decision. Also, one more guy who was against this was Leon Edwards, who thought that he should get that opportunity.
Edwards was supposed to fight Woodley, but the COVID-19 pandemic ruined everything, and this match had to be canceled. Later on, Burns jumped into the equation and faced the Chosen One.
This is predicted to be a very interesting and open fight, with both fighters wanting to go forward and dictate the tempo. It is no wonder why White decided to make it the main event.
Volkanovski vs. Holloway Rematch Drawing Attention
One of the biggest surprises over the previous 12 months was Max Holloway’s loss to Alexander Volkanovski. The Aussie was excellent in their meeting at the UFC 245 via unanimous decision. That was the last bout for both of the fighters, with Volkanovski suffering several injuries after which he had to recover for quite some time. A similar situation was on the other side.
Luckily they are ready now, and the fans can’t wait to see them in the ring. Holloway intends to regain his belt, as he still believes that he is the best featherweight fighter of all time. Meanwhile, Alexander the Great, is confident that he won’t lose.
Aldo and Yan for the Bantamweight
After Henry Cejudo decided to retire, the bantamweight title was left without its holder, which is why the UFC decided to organize the match for that belt.
Petr Yan who didn’t lose since coming to the UFC is meeting the legend, Jose Aldo. The Brazilian seeks a chance to become a champion in one more division, after doing the same in the featherweight. Five years have passed since losing to McGregor, and he hopes to bounce back in the saddle with this belt.
