UFC Futures: Yair Rodriguez vs Alexander Volkanovski Opening Odds
- Alexander Volkanovski failed to win the UFC Lightweight title.
- Volk still remains the cham in the featherweight division.
- Yair Rodriguez is the interim UFC Featherweight Champion.
Alexander Volkanovski failed to become a double-champ, but he still has one championship belt in his collection. It’s the UFC Featherweight Championship we’re talking about, something that Yair Rodriguez would love to take away from him.
Volkanovski Opens as a Huge Favorite in Unification Fight
Volkanovski is generally considered the GOAT of the featherweight division. The Aussie fighter is 25-2 overall, but neither of his losses happened in the 145-pound division. In fact, his first loss happened in 2013 when he was a welterweight. The second loss of his career happened on February 12, 2023, when he lost the UFC Lightweight Championship fight.
Volk lost to Islam Makhachev by a unanimous decision after five super-exciting rounds. The loss meant that he failed to become a “champ-champ,” but he stayed in the No.1 spot in the UFC pound-for-point rankings despite the defeat.
He also remains the champion of the UFC Featherweight Division. And oddsmakers believe he’s going to remain the champ for a long time. They see him as a -425 favorite in the title unification fight against the interim champ Jair Rodriguez, which is supposed to take place later this year.
As a reminder, Rodriguez won the interim title after defeating Josh Emmett by submission in the co-main event of UFC 284: Makhachev vs. Volkanovski. It was the 15th win for the Mexican, who also has three losses, and one no-contest in his portfolio.
