- Several colossal favorites lost their respective matches today.
- Bayern Munich was a -1000 favorite against Eintracht Frankfurt but suffered a defeat at home.
- Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid lost as well.
- Benfica, Ajax, Zenit, Malmo all lost their respective matches.
Whether it was because of the UEFA Champions League matches or something else, but we’ve seen a rare situation today. Almost all the big favorites lost their contests in the domestic leagues.
This Sunday was by far one of the worst for punters across the globe.
Bayern Munich’s Schock at Allianz Arena
The Bavarians lost at home to Eintracht Frankfurt after 21 years. Today’s game ended 1-2 for the guests, who managed to clinch a win with Filip Kostic’s goal in the 83rd minute of the match.
German champs were -1000 favorites, and practically nobody expected them to lose, especially because of their excellent form. On the other side, Eintracht had five consecutive draws before this contest. In the previous few matches at Allianz, the Eagles would usually concede four or five goals making this victory greater.
Despite losing, Bayern is still holding the top spot in the Bundesliga standings.
PSG Humiliated in Rennes
The Saints played arguably their worst game of the year, recording the first Ligue 1 loss. Stade Rennais beat the guests with 2-0, teaching them a lesson in teamwork.
On one side, we saw all 11 players acting and breathing as one, while on the other, PSG was a group of individuals who were not sharing the ball, minding only about their own moves.
Neymar and Mbappe were in the middle of this, with the two megastars competing who would be more selfish. PSG was a -250 favorite, while Rennais’ win was priced at +550.
Ancelotti Slams Anemic Los Blancos
Real Madrid’s head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, was furious after today’s loss against Espanyol on the road, 2-1. Los Blancos were the favorites, and the Italian manager couldn’t hide his anger over a poor performance. According to Ancelotti, this was the worst game of this team since taking over the wheel at Santiago Bernabeu.
Real’s recent results were awful. They would lose in the UEFA Champions League at home to Sheriff, who debuted in this competition. Los Blancos were -1200 favorites in that one.
Ajax, Benfica, Zenit, Malmo – All Lose at Home
The Lancers were -600 favorites to beat Utrecht today, but in the end, the Dutch champions lost 0-1. This midweek they beat Besiktas in the UEFA Champions League, 2-0, showing superb form.
Benfica trashed Barcelona with 3-0 on Wednesday but lost to Portimorense tonight, 0-1. The two-time European champions were -550 favorites, while Portimorense’s victory sat at +1200. Enough said.
Zenit also won in the UCL, against Malmo, but they too couldn’t keep up with the positive rhythm. Sochi left Gazprom Arena victorious, beating the Russian champs with 1-2. The guests were +700 to win before the kick-off, and odds on Zenit were at -330.
Finally, the above-mentioned Malmo also had a bad weekend. The Swedish titleholders were beaten by Mjallby, 0-1, despite being favored by the bookmakers, -300.
