The Apex Legend Twitch Tournament: What You Need to Know

Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall successor, Apex Legends, has turned out to be quite the blockbuster. News about the game have spread like wildfire on February 4, with hundreds of thousands clicking the proverbial Follow button at @PlayApex on Twitter. The game has achieved some enviable results already, including:

  • 2.5 million players on its first day
  • 10 million players within 72 hours of release
  • Nearly 500,000 concurrent Twitch viewers, better than Fortnite in that same week
  • Two Challenges worth $100,000 each
  • A total of 25 million unique players by the end of Week 1

It’s been a little over a week now, and Apex Legends is preparing for the Twitch tournament announced last week.

The tournament will feature two separate challenges, with two sub-events each. The first one is taking place on February 12 and features teams from EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

Which Teams Are Playing in the First Apex Legends Twitch Event?

The European heavyweights feature 24 contenders spread across 8 teams. Twitch is saving up the delightful dish of North American challengers (who include some of the most popular Twitch personalities) for later.

Legends, lock & load!

Meanwhile, the EU leg of the event will offer plenty of opportunity for up-and-coming organizations to distinguish themselves and eventually compete against a global pool of contestants.

Back to North America, some exciting names are slated to make an appearance for the inaugural event:

  • Dr DisRespect
  • Sacriel
  • Myth
  • DisguisedToast
  • RealKraftyy
  • shroud

Each of these players has been spending quite a bit of time preparing on live stream and bringing EA and Respawn Entertainment an impressive number of viewers.

The Format of the Tournament

All systems go.

There will be no group stages, qualifiers or playoffs. Twitch is bringing together a crop of top talent separated into teams of 3. Each team will have to out-gun their opponents in a 4-hour-long battle. Each time a team wins a game, they will be granted 5 points.

However, each kill will bring 1 point per team, incentivizing skilled marksmen to really seek confrontation with other squads. The $200,000 prize money will be subdivided in the following order:

North America

  • Event 1 & 2 – $50,000 for each event

EMEA

  • Event 1 & 2 – $50,000 for each event

Bottom line, we will get to enjoy four separate installments of the Twitch Rivals Apex Legends events.

Where to Watch Apex Legends’ Twitch Tournaments on February 12?

The event will be broadcast on Twitch’s official channel. The competition itself will continue for 4 hours with some warm-up beforehand. Depending on where you live, you will be able to tune in at different times, including:

  • 9 AM PT
  • 12 PM ET
  • 5 PM GMT

The hype’s building up. With Apex Legends’ Twitch events on the cards, it’ll be exciting to see not only each separate competition, but also how the game will continue to develop in 2019.
