- Novak Djokovic opens the day as a solid favorite against Alexander Zverev.
- Daniil Medvedev is -500 to defeat Felix Auger Aliassime.
- The women’s semifinals are set for today.
The men’s part of the US Open tournament reached the semifinals. In one match, we have Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev, while the other includes the young Canadian, Felix Auger Aliassim, and Daniil Medvedev.
Both of the ladies’ games are set for today. The program will start with Leylah Fernandez and Aryna Sabalenka, after which follows the game between Emma Raducanu and Maria Sakkari.
Will Novak Get His Revenge?
The Serb lost the first set to Matteo Berrettini but stormed into the semis after winning three consecutive ones. In the end, it was 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 for world no.1. He now faces an old foe who recently inflicted him a blow that will be remembered forever.
Alexander Zverev won the Olympic gold medal, eliminating Djokovic in the semifinals of the tournament. Fast forward several weeks, and there they are at the same stage, only of one different championship.
Novak chases history in New York. Apart from claiming his 21st Grand Slam trophy, he is also after a calendar Grand Slam, which will cement his legacy, and probably make him the best ever tennis player in the male competition. Zverev, though, has other plans, and he wants to clinch the initial Grand Slam title.
The odds are on Novak’s side, -250, while Zverev’s win is at +200.
In the second semis, Daniil Medvedev is -500 against the young Canadian, Felix Auger Aliassime, who is +350. Auger Aliassime had an easy task against the Spanish teenage sensation, Carlos Alcazar, who withdrew in the second set of their quarterfinal game.
Medvedev was better than Botic van de Zandschulp, 3-1, 3-6, 0-6, 6-4 and 5-7. This is his third straight semifinals here, and may we say that he is already accustomed to the atmosphere and the pressure.
Fernandez Seeking Another Miracle
Things won’t be sweet for the 19-year old Leylah Fernandez, who meets Aryna Sabalenka in the semis today. At the moment, the Belarus is the top favorite for winning the trophy, +100, and she has a massive advantage over the Canadian player, according to the bookmakers. Sabalenka’s win in this contest is -300, and Fernandez’s another sensation is priced at +350.
Many hope to see the youngster in the finals, but we need to say that Sabalenka has looked pretty confident and determined since the start of the tournament. She is focused, strong, and is overall locked in, not responding to any distraction whatsoever.
Emma Raducanu and Maria Sakkari feature in the second semis, which is a bit unexpected, to be quite honest. Just a few expected to see either of these two ladies going this far, let alone both of them.
The Greek player is a favorite here, with the odds on her victory currently sitting at -166. On the other side, the 18-year old Brit, who quietly reached this stage, comes as a +120 underdog, but with solid chances to eliminate the more experienced rival.
