Game Preview
USC landed safely on the right side of the bubble as a 10-seed. They lost to Arizona State in the Pac-12 quarterfinals, but had beaten the Sun Devils in the game prior. They’ll now attempt to pull off an upset over Michigan State. The Trojans are led by Boogie Ellis, who has been scorching hot. In his last 7 games, he’s scored over 24 points per game. USC will need Ellis to be firing on all cylinders here.

Michigan State ended their season in a similar way as USC. They lost to Ohio State in the Big Ten quarterfinals, but had beaten them in the game right before then. They’ll also be seeking to rebound from their loss, and have the benefit of being the favorite as the higher seed. Michigan State hung with some of the nation’s toughest teams during non-conference play, but has cooled off since.
Picks
The 10-seed has historically won nearly 40% of matchups against the 7-seed in the NCAA Tournament, giving USC a shot at winning this game. With that being said, I’d feel much more confident betting on a team from the Big-10 than the Pac-12, after the Big-10 received twice as many bids. The Spartans were more impressive in the regular season, so I’ll take them to win this Trojan War bout.
