Game Preview

Utah Valley surged past Cincinnati, advancing to the NIT Final 4. After winning the WAC regular season title, they came up short in the WAC tourney, missing out on the chance to claim an auto-bid. The Wolverines have proved they are every bit capable since then in the NIT. They’re led by 7’0 Aziz Bandaogo, who averages a double-double, and had 15 points, 12 boards, and 4 blocks against Cincinnati.

UAB continued to cut through their NIT competition on Wednesday, taking down a red-hot Vanderbilt squad to advance to the semis. They have a potential rematch with North Texas in the finals on their minds, but need to first worry about overcoming Bandaogo and Utah Valley. The Blazers have a tremendous weapon of their own in Jelly Walker, who ranks 4th in the NCAA in scoring with 22.5 ppg.

This is another NIT semifinal game with high stakes and an intriguing matchup. Aziz Bandaogo vs Jelly Walker is a premier matchup of superstars on mid-major teams, and the one that plays to a more elite level will likely help carry their team into the title game. I’ve been riding high on the C-USA conference this year, so I see UAB picking up the win here, 70-67, and meeting North Texas in the finals.
