Weili vs. Joanna Confirmed, Blachowicz to Take on Anderson

Two UFC bouts were set over the last 24 hours. The first and the more important one will be between, Zhang Weili the reigning strawweight champion, and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The second is men’s light heavyweight clash between Jan Blachowicz and Corey Anderson.

Weili vs. Joanna – Finally

The Chinese champion will have her first title defense against the toughest possible opponent. Weili (20-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) takes on one of the most dominant fighters in strawweight division ever, Joanna Jedrzejczyk (16-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC). The bout will be the headliner of the UFC 248, which takes place on March 7. The location of the event is still not known, but it seems that it could be in China, as Joanna stated that she has nothing against facing the champ at her own turf.

Weili was more than confident since she entered the UFC, and overall she is on a 20-fight winning streak. She won the title against Jessica Andrade back in August, when she knocked out the champion at the time, already in the first round.

As for Joanna, she had five title defenses in strawweight before losing twice against Rose Namajunas. After that, she also had a shot at the flyweight belt, but Valentina Shevchenko won that bout via unanimous decision.

Her comeback to strawweight was against Michelle Waterson at UFC Tampa on October 12, and that win made it possible for her to have another chance to take back the title.

Of course, that will be more than tough as Weili looks very confident ahead of this clash. According to the experts, she will enter this fight as a favorite, and if by any chance, the battle takes place in China, that will be a massive advantage for the champ.

Who Will Reach Jones – Blachowicz or Anderson?

The bout between Blachowicz and Anderson will be sealed in a matter of days, and it should be the headline of a UFC Rio Rancho scheduled for February 15. This will be the fight that should determine Jon Jones’ next opponent. Of course, if he beats Dominis Reyes at UFC 247.

Both of these guys are in excellent shape right now and are coming off a solid winning streak, and their recent performances earned them a possibility of competing for the shot at the title.

Blachowicz 25-8 MMA, 8-5 UFC) has six wins over the previous seven fights, with a single loss coming against Thiago Santos. After a slow start in the UFC during which he had two wins in six events, the Pole improved radically, establishing himself as one of the most respectable names in the lightweight category.

His latest win came against Jacare Souza, and he also defeated Luke Rockhold, Jimi Manuwa, and Jared Cannonier.

Anderson (13-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) knocked out Johnny Walker in the last contest he had, back at UFC 244. It was his fourth straight victory, and during that run, the American beat Ilir Latifi, Glover Texeira, and Patrick Cummins. It is going to be his biggest challenge yet, with the stakes higher than in any of his past bouts.

As mentioned earlier, if Jones defeats Reyes, the winner of this battle should meet with Bones during the middle of the next year.
