Event Preview

Austin Country Club hosts the prestigious WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play event this weekend. The format for these types of events is slightly different, as the top 64 players in the world are divided into four pools. That sees the top 16 players take part in their own groups, with the four players involved competing in head-to-head competition, with the winners from each picking up a point.

The two finalists will then play over seven rounds. Scottie Scheffler is a very firm favorite at the top of the betting, as he bids to successfully defend the crown he won last year. The American has also finished in the top two in each of the last two editions, as he finished second back in 2021.

Jon Rahm has been in electric form this year, and it appears hard to dismiss his chances of victory. The Spanish star has already won three events this calendar year, and has a previous second to his name at the WGC.

Other players that have previous experience at the event include Rory McIlroy and Kevin Kisner. The latter won the event in 2019, and has finished second on two occasions since 2018.

WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Predictions

I always dislike siding with a favorite on the PGA Tour, but Scheffler appears to be the standout pick here. The American has excellent form in the event, and is the top-ranked golfer in the world coming into the event.
