  • Both of these teams won last week’s games.
  • The Defenders and Battlehawks are 2-0, so this is a heavyweight battle.

The Battlehawks are 2-0 but have gotten off to slow starts in both games this season and will look to fix that in Week 3.

The Defenders haven’t liked what they have seen from QB Jordan Ta’amu, so former Miami Hurricanes standout D’Eriq King got some run last week, and he could do so again.

Game Preview

The Battlehawks have been confusing to watch. For the majority of both games, the offense has struggled before finding its rhythm late and pulling out last-minute victories.

Nonetheless, former Alabama QB AJ McCarron has been pretty decent. In the Week 2 win, McCarron went 22-of-36 for 184 yards with one score and another 41 rushing yards and an additional score.

The Battlehawks stunned the Sea Dragons with a last-second game-winning field goal to move to 2-0 on the year.

The Defenders also haven’t lost this season, and they made easy work of the Vegas Vipers in Week 2. The Defenders’ offense is led by their rushing attack, and Abram Smith ran for 71 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries in Week 2 in the 18-6 victory.

Ryquell Armstead is also having a strong year running the football, and those two are second and third in the XFL.

Jordan Ta’amu struggled again and the Defenders used a two-QB system with him and D’Eriq King, and it worked out pretty well against Vegas. Whether they do it again or not remains to be seen, but the Defenders are going to have their hands full against one of the better teams in the XFL.

Prediction

The Defenders do play at home, but the Battlehawks’ offense has come to life late in both games. The bigger question will be whether or not they can continue to start slow and end well.

However, the Defenders QB situation is a big problem, and until that is resolved, they will have a difficult time. This will be a close game, but the comeback heroes in St. Louis move to 3-0 with a narrow win.
