NFL Predictions
The Dolphins defeated the Bills on Sunday, improving to 3-0 on the season. As the AFC’s last unbeaten team, Miami has made a statement to start out the year. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been exceptional, and after 3 games leads the league in QBR. Wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have combined for 40 receptions, 659 yards, and 5 TDs to start out the season.
The Bengals dominated the Jets from start to finish this week, finally getting their first win of the season. After two disappointing losses to start out the year, Cincinnati got back on track against a beatable Jets team. Next up, they’ll face a much tougher Dolphins team. Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle, both top-10 picks in 2021, go head-to-head in this one. I’d favor the home team by a hair.

NFL Predictions
The Vikings survived a 10-point 4th quarter deficit on Sunday, knocking off the Lions 28-24. After an impressive trouncing of the Packers in Week 1, Minnesota has looked pedestrian over the past couple of weeks. After 9 catches for 184 yards and 2 TDs against the Packers in Week 1, wide receiver Justin Jefferson has managed just 9 catches for 62 yards and no TDs in the last two weeks.
The Saints came up short against the Panthers, dropping to 1-2 on the season. New Orleans has struggled quite a bit on offense. Despite a 9 reception for 147 yard game by rookie wide receiver Chris Olave, and the return of running back Alvin Kamara, the Saints failed to score for the first 3 quarters of the game. The Vikings defense isn’t going to make things any easier for the Saints.

NFL Predictions
The Browns handled business against the Steelers on Thursday. The most surprising and impressive thing about Cleveland’s 2-1 start has been quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who currently ranks in the top-10 in the NFL in QBR. Nick Chubb had another dominant game, finishing with 113 yards and a TD. New Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper reeled in 7 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.
The Falcons won in Seattle on Sunday, getting their first win of the season. The biggest difference maker was 2nd-year tight end Kyle Pitts, who finished with 5 receptions for 87 yards after being hardly utilized in the Falcons first two games. Atlanta’s improved defense has kept them in the game more often so far this season, but the Browns red-hot offense could prove to be too much.

The Commanders lost badly to the Eagles on Sunday, creating even more concerns for a team that is headed in the wrong direction. Washington’s Week 1 win against Jacksonville was earned through strong play from QB Carson Wentz, who made up for a poor defensive performance. In Weeks 2 and 3, the Commanders defense didn’t get much better, while Wentz took a major step back.
The Cowboys got a road win against the Giants on Monday night. Quaterback Cooper Rush improved to 3-0 as a starter as he gets set for what could be his last start before Dak Prescott returns. If Rush improves to 4-0 and then Dak loses his first game back, could there be a quarterback controversy in Dallas? The Cowboys defense should have some fun in this, with another win likely for them.

The Seahawks lost to the Falcons on Sunday, dropping to 1-2 on the season. After an upset win over former quarterback Russell Wilson in the season opener, Seattle has come crashing back down to Earth. It’s possible that the amount of Geno Smith starts are limited, and it may not be long before Drew Lock takes the field for the Seahawks. Seattle’s losing streak may not end anytime soon.
The Lions blew a 10-point 4th quarter lead against the Vikings on Sunday, falling to 1-2. Detroit finally got some support from their defense, after being carried by their offense for the first two weeks of the season. Unfortunately, the defense let up in the 4th, and the offense never found the same juice it had from the first two weeks, leading to another loss. The Lions should bounce back here.

The Titans defeated the Raiders 24-22 on Sunday, claiming their first win of the season. After a 12-5 finish last year, Tennessee is looking to get things back on track, but have had a rough start to the season. A divisional matchup against the struggling Colts will provide a good test. RB Derrick Henry will have another tough matchup after averaging just 3.6 yards per carry to start out the season.
The Colts upset the Chiefs 20-17, getting a much-needed win after a 0-1-1 start to the season. Indianapolis continues to be a hard team to evaluate. A 24-0 loss against the Jaguars in Week 2 is completely different from their win over the Chiefs in Week 3. With Michael Pittman Jr. back, the Colts are a bigger threat, but I’m still not too convinced that they are as tough as many expected.

The Bears defeated the Texas 23-20 on Sunday, led once again by their defense. A 2-1 start for Chicago has taken some pressure off of Quarterback Justin Fields, who had another abysmal game, finishing 8 for 17 for 106 yards and 2 INTs. With starting running back David Montgomery hurting, it was Khalil Herbert who picked up the slack on offense, finished with 157 yards and 2 TDs.
The Giants lost to the Cowboys on Monday night, putting up another rough offensive performance. Quarterback Daniel Jones fell to 0-9 in prime time, after being pressured all night long, with the Giants offensive line falling apart. New York got another good game from running back Saquon Barkley, but the defense couldn’t carry a struggling offense to another win, and may not in Week 4 either.

The Jaguars blew out the Chargers on Sunday. Jacksonville’s 38-10 win in Los Angeles ranks among their best in franchise history, and solidifies them as a potential threat in the AFC. After outscoring their opponents 62-10 over the last two weeks, the Jaguars have shown no signs of slowing down. The defense has been excellent, and Trevor Lawrence is finally playing like a 1st-overall pick.
The Eagles defeated the Commanders easily on Sunday, improving to 3-0, and becoming the NFC’s final undefeated team. Philadelphia came into the season with high expectations and have seen them all met so far. Jalen Hurts has been playing exceptionally well, benefitting from the acquisition of wide receiver AJ Brown, who has 20 catches for 309 yards and a TD so far.

The Jets lost badly at home against the Bengals on Sunday, falling to 1-2 on the season. The good news is that starting quarterback Zach Wilson is expected to return for this game, which should give the Jets a major boost on offense. The bad news is that Wilson’s first game back will come against a very tough Steelers defense. He’ll be forced to shake off the rust right away to avoid a 1-3 start.
The Steelers lost by 12 against the Browns on Sunday, struggling to get things going on offense. Mitchell Trubisky finished 20 for 32 for 207 yards and a rushing TD. Questions are beginning to be asked about when 2022 1st-round draft pick Kenny Pickett will get a chance to get some meaningful reps at quarterback. A loss to the Jets at home could cause Pickett to finally come off the bench.

The Bills lost their first game of the season on Sunday, coming up short against the Dolphins. It’s hard to fault Buffalo for a 2-point road loss against a 3-0 team, though there were some mistakes that could be corrected. Poor time management near the end of the game eliminated the Bills chance to attempt a game-winning field goal. Buffalo has another tough test in Baltimore this week.
The Ravens defeated the Patriots 37-26 on Sunday, continuing to display some impressive offensive showings. QB Lamar Jackson has been sensational, despite losing top wide receiver Marquise Brown over the offseason. With Jackson playing significantly better than last season thus far, the Ravens could be a real Super Bowl contender. This game against the Bills will put that to the test.

The Chargers got blown out by the Jaguars on Sunday at home. After a devastating loss in the previous week against the Chiefs, the Chargers now find themselves with a 1-2 record. Wide receiver Keenan Allen missed the game due to injury and Justin Herbert played through a bad rib injury, making things much more difficult for Los Angeles, who also lost star tackle Rashawn Slater to injury.
The Texans lost to the Bears on Sunday, despite a poor performance from Bears quarterback Justin Fields. Houston has shown little to be hopeful about since the first half of Week 1, and continues to look like a top candidate for this year’s #1 overall pick. Quarterback Davis Mills has taken a major step back, and will have to get back on track against Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack in Week 4.

The Cardinals lost at home to the Rams on Sunday. While the loss against a tough Rams team may not seem not bad, the Cardinals offensive performance was very discouraging. Quarterback Kyler Murray threw 58 passes, but completed only 37 of them for 314 yards and no scores. Running back James Conner averaged just 3 yards per carry. Arizona desperately needs DeAndre Hopkins back.
The Panthers defeated the Saints, picking up their first win of the season. Carolina’s defense helped them to escape an 0-3 start, but Baker Mayfield ranks dead last in the NFL in QBR, creating all sorts of concerns about the direction of the team. The Panthers will once again rely heavily on RB Christian McCaffrey in this week’s game, but may not have enough juice if Mayfield can’t improve.

The Patriots lost to the Ravens on Sunday, falling to 1-2 on the season. Quarterback Mac Jones has been banged up and New England’s offense continues to struggle. With the usually reliable defense having given up 37 points against the Ravens last week, the Patriots may be even worse than many expected this season. They’ll have another tough test in Week 4 against the Packers.
Green Bay got another big win on Sunday, defeating the previously 2-0 Buccaneers by a score of 14-12. The Packers are putting their bad Week 1 loss against the Vikings in the rearview mirror as they look to improve to 3-1 against the Patriots. 4th-round pick draft Romeo Doubs finished with 8 catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. The Packers shouldn’t have too much trouble in this one.

The Broncos defeated the 49ers 11-10 on Sunday night in a defensive slug fest. Denver entered this season with very high expectations after trading for quarterback Russell Wilson and signing him to a 5-year, $235 million extension. While the Broncos 2-1 record might convince you they’ve met those expectations, Wilson has looked sluggish, and Denver has had a very rocky start.
The Raiders are the NFL’s lone 0-3 team, after losing their 3rd straight game by 6 points or fewer. After a 10-7 season where they made the playoffs, Las Vegas needs to turn things around quickly to avoid a complete collapse. With a road date against the Chiefs in Week 5 on the horizon, the Raiders need a win here at home against Denver. I’m inclined to think they’ll get it done and avoid 0-4.

The Chiefs lost against the Colts on Sunday, perhaps falling prey to a trap game, with their eyes on this coming week’s matchup. Regardless, Kansas City will need to bounce back from a disappointing loss to avoid falling to 2-2. QB Patrick Mahomes finished 20 for 35 for 262 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. The Colts defense got the best of Mahomes, and Tampa Bay’s defense is just as tough.
The Buccaneers lost to the Packers on Sunday. While their defense has been exceptional, the offense, littered by injuries, has really struggled. Tom Brady will need to make something happen to keep up with the Chiefs offense. Tampa Bay’s defense did get the best of Mahomes in Super Bowl LV, but their offense is not operating at the same level as back then. I think the Chiefs will get the win.

The 49ers lost to the Broncos on Sunday in a close defensive battle. In Jimmy Garoppolo’s first game back as the starter, he went 18 for 29 for 211 yards, a TD, and an INT. San Francisco will need Garoppolo to shake off the rust before a Monday night matchup against the Rams and their dominant defense. San Francisco also lost star tackle Trent Williams to injury in Sunday’s loss.
The Rams defeated the Cardinals on the road by a score of 20-12, improving to 2-1. After a rough loss in Week 1 against the Bills, Los Angeles is starting to look more like the team that won the Super Bowl. The Rams playoff win against the 49ers back in January snapped a 6-game losing streak against them. I expect Kupp and the Rams to make it 2 wins in a row against San Fran on Monday.
