Game Preview

Atlanta lost to the Red Sox, splitting their mini 2-game series 1-1. Despite the loss, the Braves have been playing great baseball lately. They’ve gone 11-4 over their last 15 games, building a massive lead over the rest of the NL East. As the only team over .500 in the division, they have a real chance to run away with it. Star OF Ronald Acuña Jr. is hitting .347 with a 1.014 OPS on the year, which ranks 2nd and 3rd in the MLB.

The Blue Jays lost both games against the Phillies this week, continuing to play with a lot of inconsistency. Before going 0-2 against Philadelphia, Toronto had swept the Pirates in 3 games on the road. Before that, they had lost 5 games in a row, following a winning streak of 6. They’ll aim to find their rhythm in a tough series against the red-hot Braves. 3B Matt Chapman’s .338 BA ranks 3rd in the MLB, right behind Acuña.

Prediction

Both of these teams are having strong seasons, and should be competitive in this series. I’d give a slight advantage to the Braves, considering their recent play, despite the series taking place in Toronto. For this first game, the pitching matchup also favors Atlanta, with Spencer Strider (2.70 ERA) aiming to build on his 4-0 record. He’ll face Chris Bassitt (4.28 ERA) who has been as inconsistent as his team. I’ll take Atlanta.
