- The Mariners were crushed by Boston, losing 12-3.
- Atlanta won a thriller against the Rangers, 6-5.
- Seattle is 11-8 in their all-time history against the Braves.
The Mariners (21-22) and the Braves (27-16) face off in an interleague bout. Both teams are hoping to build on last year’s success. Atlanta has done that so far, but Seattle has come up short. This series is key.

Preview
Seattle lost to the Red Sox on Tuesday and Wednesday, getting outscored 21-7. Fortunately, they also picked up a 10-1 win in Game 1 of that series, but continue to struggle with pitching inconsistency. The Mariners are 10-6 after a poor 11-16 start to the season, fighting to get back above .500 so that they can try and repeat their success from last season. Seattle needs their offense to get back on track as well.
The Braves remain several games ahead of the competition in the NL East division, but have also gone 2-5 over their last 7 games. They’ll have a good opportunity to get back on track against the Mariners, before getting set to host the Dodgers in the following series. Atlanta has consistently been the best team in their division, but is still jockeying for the top spot in the NL. These next two series will surely make a difference.
Prediction
Atlanta is hosting this series, and has been the better team so far this season. That sets them up well for a win here, but it won’t be easy against Seattle’s ace in Bryce Miller (0.47 ERA), who has pitched 2 shutouts and a 1-run game, all while going 6 innings or more. On the other hand, the Braves will have their own star Bryce, Bryce Elder (1.94 ERA), who should be able to keep up. I see Atlanta winning the battle of the Bryce.
