Preview
Notre Dame had another season of relative success last year, going 27-6 and making the tournament. Unfortunately, it was another 2nd weekend exit for the Fighting Irish. They haven’t made the Final Four since 2019. Olivia Miles’ status is still in doubt, after she suffered a knee injury in last year’s ACC tourney. Miles averaged 14/7/7 last season. Freshman Hannah Hidalgo will be asked to step up if Miles can’t go.
After a half a decade of pure dominance, South Carolina is entering a new era. They are no longer ranked in the top-5, let alone #1. Even so, the Gamecocks have a successful program for a reason. They may not go undefeated, but they will still be in title contention. Before they can focus on rival LSU, South Carolina has a tough opening matchup against Notre Dame. Senior Kamilla Cardoso will provide some experience.
Prediction
NCAA regular season basketball makes its debut in Paris, France for this record-setting game. It should be a very competitive matchup between two premier basketball programs. Both teams are facing some level of uncertainty with their rosters, but have the potential to break out and make a run to the finals. It’s hard to pick against the Gamecocks, as they don’t lose often. I’ll take South Carolina to win a pretty close one.
NCAAW Picks:
- South Carolina 78, Notre Dame 71 ()
