Preview

Alabama looked impressive again in Week 5, seeming to have put their early-season woes behind them. After losing to Texas and struggling offensively against USF, the Crimson Tide started out SEC play 2-0, outscoring their opponents 64-27 in the process. They can continue to prove their ability here against an Aggies team that is also on the rise. Any more defeats would likely ended Alabama’s CFP hopes this year.

Texas A&M defeated Arkansas last week, improving to 4-1 on the year. They haven’t faced the toughest SEC competition yet, but that immediately changes this week against Alabama. The Aggies will be attempting to produce a much more competitive result than their loss to Miami in Week 2. Their defense has improved since allowing 48 points to the Hurricanes, giving up just 35 points in the three game since.

Prediction

I’m a bit surprised to see this spread at essentially a push. It’s true that Alabama hasn’t looked as solid this season as usual, but they won their last two SEC games easily. Texas A&M is hard to pin down with a lot of 5-star talent that has unproduced, but they shouldn’t be a much tougher test than Ole Miss was for the Crimson Tide. I don’t expect a blowout, but I would be a bit surprised to see Alabama on the ropes here.
