Preview

Iowa’s win over Purdue has them now just one win away from bowl eligibility. They could claim it this week against Wisconsin, but will face their toughest test since their 31-0 loss to Penn State. The Hawkeyes have given up 16 or fewer points in all five victories. Their defense gives them a chance at beating the Badgers, but they’ll need QB Deacon Hill to bounce back this week, after completing just 6 passes against Purdue.

Wisconsin is looking to improve to 3-0 in Big-10 play in this game. A victory here would give the Badgers a full 2-game cushion in the Big-10 West division, an advantage that absolutely cannot be understated. To win this game, Wisconsin will need to maintain the momentum that they’ve built. They’ve done a good job at protecting QB Tanner Mordecai lately, which was a major issue in their Week 2 loss to Washington State.

Prediction

The Big-10 West will almost certainly be won by Wisconsin or Iowa this year. The other 5 teams are at a non-competitive level. That raises the stakes for this game quite a bit, as it could very well determine one of the Big-10 title game’s participants. The Badgers should have the advantage here, especially at home. That being said, It may not be a large enough advantage to cover the spread against Iowa’s tough defense.
