  • LSU was on bye last week, after clobbering Army, 62-0, in Week 8.
  • Alabama was also on bye last week, after beating Tennessee 34-20.
  • These two teams last met on November 5, 2022, in a game LSU won 32-31.

The college football season is heating up! Let’s preview the upcoming LSU vs Alabama clash. These teams both rank high enough to be in CFP contention, but can’t take a loss in this game, which raises the stakes.

Preview

LSU is ranked #14 in the first CFP rankings of the year, putting them in an interesting position. No 2-loss team has ever made the playoff, but the Tigers have enough key games on their schedule to potentially rise high enough in the rankings if they win out. That all starts or ends with this game against Alabama. The Tigers have been great on offense, but need their defense to be at their best to have a chance here.

Alabama’s been quietly winning at a consistent rate since their home loss to Texas early in the season. Doing so has allowed them to reach #8 in the first CFP rankings of the year. If the Crimson Tide win out, they have a solid chance at making it. On the other hand, another loss would be detrimental. They’ll be aiming to get revenge against LSU for last season’s defeat. QB Jalen Milroe will be tested in this matchup.

Prediction

This should be a very competitive game between two top-15 teams. The winner will become the frontrunner to win the SEC West, while the loser will see their title hopes take a major hit. The Crimson Tide have the advantage at home in this game. I don’t expect a blowout, but I see Alabama winning it.
