Preview
Michigan defeated Ohio State for the 3rd consecutive time, after losing 15 of the previous 16 matchups against them. Doing so earned them a spot in their 3rd straight Big-10 title game, with a chance to win and make their 3rd straight CFP. The Wolverines are hoping the 3rd time will be the charm, after going one-and-done in their previous two CFP appearances. They’ll need to first get past Iowa’s stringent defense.
Iowa picked up another narrow victory on Saturday. The Hawkeyes have not looked impressive lately. In 3 of their last 4 games, they won by just 2-3 points, against Northwestern, Illinois, and Nebraska. They need to play far better here to have a chance at beating Michigan. Iowa’s elite defense gives them something to work with, but they’ll need much more than that to avoid a similar result to their 31-0 loss to Penn State.
Prediction
Based on what we’ve seen from these two teams this season, it’s not unreasonable to expect Michigan to run away with it. That being said, Iowa is not a 10-win team for nothing. While I don’t have much hope in their ability to win this game, the Hawkeyes do have a chance to cover a massive spread. I don’t expect much offense, but their defense should keep it low-scoring. Ultimately, Michigan should still win easily.
