Week 3 of the college football season is here. Let’s preview the San Diego State vs Oregon State game.

Preview

San Diego State didn’t offer much competition against UCLA last week, losing 35-10. It’s been an subpar season so far for the Aztecs. They defeated MAC opponent Ohio and FCS Idaho State by just one score in their first two games. Coupled with their loss to UCLA, and they’ve been nowhere near the same level as the past. They’ll have one more chance to prove themselves this week before Mountain West play begins.

Oregon State looked very solid again in Week 2, wining 55-7. After finishing in the top-20 last season and bringing in former Clemson QB D.J. Uiagalelei, the Beavers could be legitimate contenders to win the Pac-12. That being said, they haven’t faced the toughest competition yet. With games against #23 Washington State and #12 Utah approaching, Oregon State will need to avoid falling victim to a trap game this week.

Prediction

Over the past several years, this same matchup probably would have seen San Diego State as the favorite. A lot has changed for both teams recently, having headed in completely different directions. It may be a tall task asking the Beavers to cover a 25-point spread against the Aztecs, but everything they’ve shown so far this season says they can. I’m going to trust the Beavers, and take them to win and cover at home.
