Week 2 of the college football season is upon us. Let’s preview the upcoming SMU vs Oklahoma matchup.

Preview

SMU played their Week 1 opener in the wake of the news that they had been accepted into the ACC for next season. The Mustangs will have a historic entry to the conference, after their final year in the American this season. They started the year off with a 38-14 win over Louisiana Tech. SMU is likely thinking about an upset over Oklahoma to help them prove themselves as the newest Power-5 squad.

Oklahoma pummeled Arkansas State in their opener, winning 73-0. Despite the inferior competition, a win that dominant is still a great sign for the Sooners, especially after they’ve underperformed over the past few seasons. With their move to the SEC imminent, Oklahoma will be looking to exit the Big-12 with a statement. They only face one ranked team, #11 Texas at home, giving them a chance to run the tables.

Prediction

After the Week 1 results, it would be a definite surprise to see Oklahoma lose this game at home. SMU should be relatively competitive, but I ultimately don’t see them keeping up with a dangerous Sooners offense. It may stay close early on, but I’ll take Oklahoma to get the victory and cover the spread here.
