  • USC narrowly escaped Arizona in OT last week, winning by a score of 43-41.
  • Notre Dame was overwhelmed by Louisville, losing 33-20, and falling to 5-2.
  • These two teams last met on November 26, 2022, in a game USC won 38-27.

The college football season is in full swing. Let’s preview the upcoming USC vs Notre Dame game. The Fighting Irish took their second loss, erasing their CFP hopes. The Trojans need to improve defensively.

Preview

USC saw much of the same in their Week 6 win over Arizona. They started off slow, falling behind 10-0 in the 1st quarter, before heating up. Caleb Williams had a pedestrian game by his standards, completing 14 of 25 passes for 219 yards and 1 TD, but still did enough to get the win. Meanwhile, the defense continued to struggle, allowing Arizona to score with ease throughout the game. They’ll need to improve this week.

Notre Dame saw their CFP hopes all but vanish last week, after losing 33-20 to Louisville. No 2-loss team has ever made the playoff, and the Fighting Irish are already 5-2 with this game against USC and a face off with Clemson still on the schedule. They need to win out and hope for chaos at the top of the rankings, but no conference title game also hurts them. A loss in this game could take them out of the NY6 as well.

Prediction

Both teams are looking to take major steps forward in this premier matchup, as the 2nd half of the season approaches. USC’s defense is a major concern, especially on the road against a Sam Hartman-led offense. That being said, the Trojans also have Caleb Williams leading a stacked offense. That should be enough to get them past a struggling Fighting Irish team. I’m taking USC to win this one on the road and get to 7-0.
