We’re two weeks into the season, which means we’ve had enough time to consider “pink slips” for coaches, don’t you think? I mean, shouldn’t Bill Belichick be feeling the heat after that call on the last play against Seattle?

Yes, it’s time to play that family fun game, “Sack the Coach.”

So without further adieu, BetOnline presents its odds on the first NFL coach to get jettisoned:

Odds for the First Coach to Get Fired

Adam Gase

Adam Gase (+150) has gotten a lot of mileage out of the fact that Peyton Manning liked to have him around. He got two head coaching jobs out of it, as a matter of fact. In Miami he was into scapegoating nearly everyone but Ryan Tannehill. And he lost the locker room, to the extent that the Dolphins laid down the last two games of the 2018 season. Apparently that wasn’t a factor in his job interview with the Jets.

Things seem to have gotten stale pretty quickly for “Gang Green.” Sam Darnold looks stagnated. The play-calling is highly-questionable. And the Jets look as though they are rolling over. How long will ownership sit by and watch it?

Matt Patricia

The Detroit Lions seem to have systemic problems, but that won’t matter when the job status of Matt Patricia (+200) is evaluated. Patricia is the latest ex-Bill Belichick assistant who was supposed to sprinkle Patriots “magic dust” on a situation without a whole lot of real effect. The running game is a “sometime” thing. Mostly it’s the “same old, same old” in the Motor City, and owner Martha Firestone Ford (does that sound rich or what?) is going to hit with a decision sooner or later.

Dan Quinn

Dan Quinn (+350) looked like he had the Atlanta Falcons turning the corner in the second half of last season. It’s not that they have collapsed in the first two games. Well, actually they have. Quinn could be in jeopardy simply for not bringing the hammer down on special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica, whose unit stood around, ignorant of the rules, and allowed the Dallas Cowboys to recover an onside kick which led to a monster comeback. The Falcons, we’ve heard, are the only team ever to score as many as 39 points without a turnover and still lose the game.

Mike Zimmer

Mike Zimmer (+700) needs to find an offensive solution in Minnesota. He’s more likely to walk away himself than to get fired.

Doug Marrone

Doug Marrone (+900) may get fired in the off-season, but honestly, his Jacksonville Jaguars have been more combative then expected.

Anthony Lynn

Anthony Lynn (+1000) may get a pass because, at least, for the time being, he’s got a rookie at quarterback who has more or less been tossed right into the fire. And besides, the Chargers’ team doctor is the guy who should be “under the knife” for puncturing Tyrod Taylor’s lung.

Bill O’Brien

I wonder if Bill O’Brien (+1000) will be a different story. He has only been able to get the Houston Texans so far, and with his additional involvement in personnel decisions, he may be the guy to take the fall as the trade of DeAndre Hopkins isn’t looking like such a good deal. He falls into the category of “stale.”

Vic Fangio

Vic Fangio (+2000) certainly can’t be faulted for Drew Lock going down with an injury. But will they come up with a quarterback solution in Denver, if only on a temporary basis? You wonder if they would swing the axe at John Elway, since, well, quarterbacks seem to be his department.

Kevin Stefanski

Since Kevin Stefanski (+2800) is the coach of the Cleveland Browns, where they’ve had a coaching carousel, it is almost obligatory that he be on this list. But I don’t see a change coming during the season.

Matt Nagy

I wouldn’t be expecting Matt Nagy (+2800) to walk the plank, at least not during the season. Mitchell Trubisky hasn’t imploded enough for him to do that yet.

Frank Reich

And as for Frank Reich (+3300), do the Colts have a better alternative? Hey, give the guy a chance.

And thanks for playing.
