Preview
St. Louis’ 22-8 victory in Week 6 over Houston was cemented by excellent defensive play. They gave up zero points through the first three quarters, and only 8 total. The Battlehawks also excelled offensively in the win. WR Hakeem Butler has emerged as one of the premier wide receivers in the entire UFL. He reeled in 12 catches for 281 yards and 4 TDs in just the last two games. A massive area for offensive improvement is the running game, which carried the ball 17 times for -5 yards on Saturday.
The Stallions had an offensive explosion of their own, defeating the Showboats on the road 39-21. The win improved them to 6-0, as Birmingham remains a favorite to win it all. Their biggest competition may be the Battlehawks, who they’ll host this week. QB Adrian Martinez will aim to build on a sensational performance in which he went 23 for 36 for 369 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Stallions also managed to clinch a playoff spot following the victory, despite still having four games to play.
Prediction
This is likely to be the best game of the UFL regular season, taking place between its top two teams. A 5-game winning streak clashes with a 6-game winning streak in this matchup, with only one team able to maintain it. The Stallions have an advantage as the home team, and also hold a better record. That being said, the Battlehawks have been truly dominant lately. St. Louis is capable of pulling off the upset here. I expect this one to come down to the very last moments.
UFL Picks
- Battlehawks 28, Stallions 25 (STL +3.5)
