Preview
Memphis collapsed down the stretch in their game against the Brahmas. They led 16-0 entering the 4th quarter, but allowed San Antonio to outscore them 20-3 in the final period. It was a brutal defeat at home for a Showboats team that looked to be on the way to 2-0. They’ll have a chance to bounce back against the UFL’s only other unbeaten team, the Stallions. QB Case Cookus had an up-and-down performance, completing 17 of 31 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown.
The Stallions improved to 2-0 in their win over the Panthers, riding their league-best defense to another victory. After giving up just 27 total points in the first two weeks, Birmingham has inserted itself as a clear frontrunner to make the UFL Playoffs. While their defense swarmed Michigan, their offense was not quite as impressive. QBs Adrian Martinez and Matt Corral combined to complete 13 of 27 passes for 141 yards and an INT. They’ll need to take a notable step forward this week to remain unbeaten.
Prediction
This should be a solid Week 3 matchup between two teams that rank near the top of the league. Had Memphis held on in the 4th quarter, this would have been a game featuring two unbeaten teams. Despite the Showboats dominating 7 out of 8 quarters this season, I see them facing an uphill battle on the road against Birmingham. I like the Stallions to win, though they may not cover.
