Game Preview
Chicago failed to sweep the Mariners on Wednesday, but still managed to take 2 out of 3 games and win the series. They’re now 5-2 over their last 7 games, after starting the season out 1-4. The Cubs have not seen much success since their World Series title in 2016, but are hoping that their rebuilding efforts will start to show some more progress this season. Offseason acquisition Dansby Swanson has hit .400 so far.
The Dodgers took down the Giants on Wednesday, climbing back above .500 at 7-6. It’s been an up-and-down season so far for Los Angeles, having started much slower than the past few seasons. That being said, they went 4-1 in their games against any team other than the Diamondbacks, who they have gone 3-5 against. The Dodgers will have a chance to build even more momentum against the Cubs in this series.
Prediction
At the end of the season, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Dodgers were the better team by 20 games or so. That being said, they’ve played about as well as the Cubs have so far this year, and the starting pitcher matchup is not ideal for them in this game. Los Angeles will start a struggling Noah Syndergaard (6.30 ERA), who will go up against the dangerous Justin Steele (0.75 ERA). I’m picking a Cubs upset in this one.
