Game Preview
Cleveland bounced back with a key win against the Rockies, avoiding the sweep. They’ve gone 3-7 over their last 10 games, but remain in 2nd place in a putrid AL Central division. The Guardians got a great first career start from rookie pitcher Tanner Bibee against the Rockies on Wednesday. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up just 1 run and striking out 8 batters. They’ll aim to build on that momentum against the Red Sox.
The Red Sox continued their .500 play, trading wins and losses over their last 6 games. They’ve gone 5-5 in their last 10, and sit at 13-13 on the season. All Boston needs is one extended winning streak to climb into contention, but they currently sit in last place in a brutal AL East division. They’re 5-1 against the bad AL Central so far this season, and will have a chance to further build on that record against the Guardians.
Prediction
It’s a bit surprising to see the Red Sox as the underdogs at home in this game. While it’s true that they weren’t very good last season, they’ve played relatively well against a tough schedule, though they went 0-7 against the 20-5 Rays and 18-8 Pirates. With the Guardians and their entire division struggling against the AL East, I don’t see them claiming a road win here, despite a slight pitching advantage. I’ll take Boston.
