Preview

San Francisco entered halftime of the NFC Championship trailing the Lions 24-7. With just an 8.5% chance to win at that point, the 49ers came out of the gate fast in the 2nd half, scoring 17 unanswered points and tying it up. By keeping the pressure up on defense, they were able to take the lead late in the 4th. Brock Purdy posted an 89 passer rating, which he will need to improve on in the Super Bowl to defeat the Chiefs.

The Chiefs were in control for the entire game against the Ravens, eventually winning it 17-10. They flexed an elite defensive performance that has been rare for them in recent history. Travis Kelce passed Jerry Rice for most postseason receptions, after reeling in 11 for 116 yards and a TD. Kansas City will once again have a shot at becoming the first back-to-back Super Bowl champs since the Patriots did so 20 years ago.

Prediction

Kansas City enters this game having won 5 of their last 6 games against the 49ers, with one of those wins being Super Bowl LIV. They enter as the underdog this time around, but that didn’t stop them in Buffalo or Baltimore. It’s best not to bet against Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs, and he now has the best defense the Chiefs have had in his career. The 49ers are stacked, but I see Mahomes winning the fight over Purdy.
