  • The Steelers defeated the Browns 22-26 on Monday night.
  • The Raiders were humiliated by the Bills in a 10-38 week 2 loss.
  • These teams last met in December 2022 when the Steelers won 10-13.

The 1-1 Steelers travel to the 1-1 Raiders for a matchup that could shape the course of the season for both of these teams.

Game Preview

The Steelers head into this week 3 matchup with the hope that QB Kenny Pickett can finally get the offense firing on all cylinders. The sophomore shot-caller has struggled to make his targets hit home over the first two weeks of the season, and he will have to improve on his 50% completion rate or face a long, tough season. RB Najee Harris has also failed to hit the ground running this season but a favorable matchup here may set the marker as to whether he still has some juice left. LB T.J. Watt entered the Pittsburgh record books as his 1 sack vs. the Browns made him their all-time sack leader.

The Raiders were blown away by the Bills and have struggled so far this season with Jimmy Garoppolo under center. It looks likely that Jakobi Meyers will clear concussion protocol in time to feature here and that will no doubt improve matters for the Raiders’ receiving room. Josh Jacobs is the other worry for Las Vegas, having missed training camp due to a contract holdout last year’s top RB has looked off the pace so far. Like his counterpart Najee Harris, Jacobs has a favorable matchup against the Steelers’ defense and this game could be primed for his breakout.

Prediction

The steady hands of Jimmy G should prove out over the less accurate Kenny Pickett here but it feels like we are in for an ugly game. Expect a lot of ground & pound and short dump-offs as the Raiders sneak it.
