World Series of Poker Main Event Preview
The biggest date in the World Series of Poker schedule for 2026 gets underway in Las Vegas on August 3, as the remaining nine players in contention compete in the Main Event. As has traditionally been the case, the buy-in remains at $10,000, just as it has been since 1972.
Lucas Jumalon will be a red-hot favorite to win the honor, despite having failed to land a WSOP bracelet throughout his career. The American holds 35.1% of the chips, which gives him a healthy position over Rami Hammoud, who has just under half of the leader’s chips.
Experience could play a huge part as the tournament progresses, meaning that three-time WSOP bracelet winners Greg Mueller and Michael Gagliano shouldn’t be discounted, despite having under 10% of the chips. Both players have also been prolific in terms of cashes on WSOP, with over 120 accumulated between them.
Jamie Shaevel could be one of the players worth considering, as the American has been quietly going about his business and may be capable of making a late charge as the tournament progresses.

The odds are firmly with Jumalon to break his maiden on the WSOP calendar this week, as he holds a healthy advantage over the competition. If he keeps his nerve and does not make any erratic decisions, he holds an advantage that should be too hard to overturn.
