Team News

The Carolina Hurricanes will feel as though their job is nearly complete. They are now within one win of reaching the conference finals, and potentially five victories away from reaching the Stanley Cup finals. The Hurricanes have been cut in price to win the Stanley Cup over recent days, and they looked in excellent form in game four against the Devils.

Carolina looked excellent from start to finish in game four on the road, with five of their six goals being scored in the second period. Martin Necas scored twice in that success, while Brett Pesce, Brent Burns, and Jordan Martinook also found the net. The latter also ended the night with two assists.

Meanwhile, the New Jersey Devils now have no further room for error. They must win all remaining games in the series to secure a spot in the conference finals. However, that looks like a tall order based on their showings against the Hurricanes already in this series. They had no answer for the dynamic attacking play of Carolina in game four earlier this week.

The Devils started the game well enough, as they went into the second period tied at 1-1. However, the Hurricanes stormed to victory with five unanswered goals in the second period. Jack Hughes scored the only goal for the Devils in response. Meanwhile, Vitek Vanecek made just 12 saves from 17 shots before being replaced.

Picks

The writing appears to be on the wall for the Devils, as they have a mountain to climb in this series. We expect them to struggle once again in game five, and we expect the Hurricanes to secure their spot in the next round with a victory.
