Match Preview
Two of the biggest clubs in Europe collide on the opening night of the 2024-25 Champions League season. It will be a fifth meeting between the Reds and Milan, with half of the previous collisions coming in the European Cup final. Liverpool landed a famous win in Istanbul in 2005, before Milan gained revenge in the 2007 final.
Liverpool’s record at the San Siro is excellent, winning on all three visits to the San Siro. The latest of those came back in 2021, claiming a 2-1 success against Milan. That record means that Liverpool is the only side to have traveled to the San Siro on more than one occasion and still boast a 100% record.

The Reds have a solid record on the road against Italian sides in general, winning on four of their last five visits to the nation. Their only defeat was suffered in Naples against Napoli. Prior to 2020, Liverpool had won on just three of their 14 visits to Italy.
However, Milan’s record against English opposition should also be considered on Tuesday. The Italian side are unbeaten in their last four, avoiding defeats against Tottenham and Newcastle in the last two seasons. But, they have never avoided defeat in five consecutive matches against Premier League opposition in their European history.

This should be an exciting clash at the San Siro on Tuesday, and both clubs will be hopeful of starting their Champions League campaign with a victory. However, the narrow preference is for the hosts to gain maximum points on matchday one.
