The action in Group A of the Champions League gets underway on Wednesday, as Bayern Munich welcome Man United to the Allianz Arena. Bayern will be among the favorites to land European glory this term, and their chances of success have certainly been boosted following the arrival of Harry Kane from Tottenham in the summer.
The German giants will be playing in the Champions League for the 16th straight season this term. They have encountered few issues in the group stage throughout history, as they have reached the knockout round in each of the last 19 campaigns. Bayern are also unbeaten in five previous home matches against the Red Devils.
It has been a challenging start to the new season for Erik ten Hag and his United side. They have already lost three of their opening five matches this term, and Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against Brighton has seen questions asked surrounding ten Hag’s long-term future at Old Trafford.
United have only lost more Champions League matches against Barcelona than they have against Bayern. But, one of their two wins against the German giants did come in the 1999 final. The Red Devils have been eliminated in the group stage in two campaigns from six efforts since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Bayern Munich vs Man United Prediction
This is a daunting prospect for United on Wednesday. Given their poor recent form, we struggle to see any other outcome in the Champions League this week than a win for the Bavarian hosts.
