Game Preview
Pep Guardiola was tasked with bringing the Champions League to the Etihad, and it looks as though this could possibly be the campaign in which he is able to achieve that feat. City has looked incredibly sharp in recent weeks, and they were too hot to handle for Bayern Munich in the opening clash between the sides last week.
City took a deserved lead in the 27th minute, as Rodri smashed in an effort from outside the box. The lead was doubled with 20 minutes remaining by Bernardo Silva, before Erling Haaland completed the scoring just six minutes later. Haaland’s goal was his 45th of the campaign, the most by any Premier League player in a single season across all competitions.

Bayern Munich has had some memorable nights at the Allianz Arena, but they will need a night above anything they have seen before to reach the last four. The German champions looked out of their depth in the first leg, and there was a glaringly obvious issue in the final third. They still lack an out-and-out goalscorer since the departure of Robert Lewandowski.
The defeat was just Bayern’s third in four seasons in the Champions League. Interestingly, all losses have come in the opening leg of the quarterfinals in each of the previous three seasons. In both previous seasons, they were eliminated at this stage, and a similar outcome could be expected on Wednesday.
Prediction
Bayern Munich has a mountain to climb in this quarterfinal clash. We could see them getting the victory, but we would be incredibly surprised if City don’t also find the back of the net.
