Event Preview
It was a chaotic Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne in the previous round of F1 action, with three red flags being waved. However, there was still a familiar sight at the race’s conclusion, with Max Verstappen standing at the top of the podium. The Dutchman has now moved clear at the top of the standings, as he cruised to a dominant position after overtaking Lewis Hamilton following the first restart.
Hamilton was delighted with his Mercedes, as the car finally looked to be competitive. He held off Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso with ease, and was a deserving second. However, teammate George Russell failed to finish after a first mechanical DNF of his Mercedes career.

It was a weekend to forget for Ferrari, as Charles Leclerc crashed out early, before Carlos Sainz was given a harsh five-second penalty, which saw him drop out of the points places. However, it’s hard to see a monumental overturn in their fortunes to see a challenge in Azerbaijan.
Only 12 drivers managed to finish the race in Australia, with McLaren earning their first points of the campaign, with Lando Norris taking sixth, and Oscar Piastri finishing eighth.
Azerbaijan Grand Prix Prediction
The Red Bull dominance has been a key trend over the opening races of the season, and we expect that to continue in Azerbaijan. However, we could see street specialist Sergio Perez taking the win for the second time in three years. A fourth straight podium finish for Alonso could also be on the cards.
