Dylan Larkin Next Team Odds: Canes Favored to Land Olympic Gold Medalist
One of the biggest talking points off the ice in the NHL is the breakdown in the relationship between Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings.
The Red Wings captain has been a cornerstone for Detroit since the franchise drafted him in 2014. He racked up 34 goals and 67 points in 74 regular-season games in 2025-26, and he helped Team USA win Olympic gold at Milano Cortina in February, beating Canada 2-1 in overtime for the first US men’s hockey gold since 1980.
But after playing 10 games for the Red Wings this season and scoring twice, the 30-year-old center told the team he would no longer report for practice or games until he’s traded.
Larkin’s agent, Pat Brisson, admitted his client has “had enough of the situation,” but his $8.7 million AAV contract is proving a stumbling block in any deal. Here are the latest odds on Dylan Larkin’s next team.

Why Does Larkin Want a Trade?
Larkin’s desire to move away from the Red Wings stems from his desire to compete at the highest level of the NHL. According to reports, Larkin was promised by franchise bosses that a rebuild was planned, but that is yet to occur.
Instead, Larkin has only played in the NHL playoffs on one occasion, back in his 2015-16 rookie season. Larkin is now in his 30s and wants an opportunity to play for a team capable of competing for the Stanley Cup.
The Larkin Saga Boils Over
The relationship between player and team boiled over at the end of October, when Larkin told the Red Wings he would no longer play until a trade was done. In response, interim general manager Shawn Horcoff, who replaced Steve Yzerman in September, suspended his captain without pay.
A trade is the only logical outcome to the saga, as Larkin has seven years to run on his current eight-year deal, which was signed in March 2023.
Which Teams Are in the Hunt for Larkin?
Larkin has submitted a 10-team list of preferred destinations, reportedly including the Carolina Hurricanes, Vegas Golden Knights and Washington Capitals.
Any deal will be a test for whoever goes after him. The Red Wings are expected to demand NHL-ready players rather than draft picks, and they’ve made it clear they won’t be rushed, which leaves them holding all the cards in negotiations.
Reports say the Hurricanes, Devils, Wild, and Capitals have all spoken to the Red Wings about a deal, though nothing further has been reported yet.
Where’s the Value in the Larkin Odds?
Larkin submitted a ten-team list of potential trade destinations, which includes franchises such as the Carolina Hurricanes, Vegas Golden Knights, and the Washington Capitals.
However, any negotiation is expected to be a test for whichever team goes after Larkin, as the Red Wings will likely demand NHL-ready assets rather than draft picks. The Red Wings have reiterated that they won’t be rushed into any trade, meaning that they hold all of the cards in any potential talks.
According to reports, the Canes, Devils, Wild, and Capitals have all talked to the Red Wings about a potential deal, but no further talks have yet been reported.
