The Kansas City Chiefs come into Week 9 on a two-game losing streak, and a home date with the 2-6 New York Jets looks like the perfect chance to get back on track. The market agrees, with Kansas City a 10-point favorite at Arrowhead and the total set at 45.5. But laying double digits is a big ask for a Chiefs team that hasn’t been winning by much this season.

You can find the latest NFL odds for every game this week, but here’s why I’m backing the Jets to cover and the over, and how you can bet on Jets vs Chiefs.

Game Preview

New York Jets

After some early signs of life this season, the Jets just can’t get the job done. They fell to 2-6 with a 38-33 loss to the Raiders, and Geno Smith had the chance to win it late, but threw the game-sealing interception instead. Smith finished 20 of 32 for 290 yards with two touchdowns and that pick, and while the numbers looked good, his limitations were still there when it mattered.

There were positives. Adonai Mitchell had his breakout game, with seven catches for 142 yards and a touchdown, and Braelon Allen ran for 147 yards and a score. The problem was on defense, where the Jets gave up 38 points and two touchdowns to Brock Bowers.

Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City has now lost two in a row after a 28-24 defeat in Denver. The Chiefs led 24-13 heading into the fourth quarter, but didn’t score again as the Broncos came back. It wasn’t Patrick Mahomes’ fault, as he had one of his best games in a while, going 30 of 41 for 321 yards and three touchdowns, with Emmett Johnson catching five passes for 128 yards and a score.

The run game is the concern. Kenneth Walker III was shut down again, managing just 69 yards on 21 carries, after looking flat on his return to Seattle. At 5-2, the Chiefs are still in a strong position, and a home game against the Jets is an excellent get-right opportunity.

Jets vs Chiefs Predictions

The Chiefs should win this game, but covering 10 points is another matter. Kansas City has built its record on defense rather than blowouts. It went into Week 8 allowing the second-fewest points in the league, but with an average winning margin of just 6.7 points, and that’s down to around five after the loss in Denver. Laying 10 means the Chiefs need to win by 11, and they simply haven’t been beating teams by that much.

The Jets, for all their struggles, haven’t been getting blown out. They’re 2-6, but their points differential is only -18 across eight games, so they’ve been losing close ones. With Mitchell emerging and Allen running well, this offense has enough to keep the score respectable, and I’m backing the Jets to cover the 10 points.

One thing to watch: if the Chiefs trade for wide receiver help, that could blow this offense open. Mahomes is already throwing well, and another weapon could finally give Kansas City the firepower to win games by a more convincing margin. If a deal gets done before Sunday, it’s worth a second look at this line.

I’m also taking the over 45.5. Both of these offenses are capable of putting up points. Mahomes threw for 321 yards in Denver, and the Jets put up 33 on the Raiders, in a game that saw 71 points scored. There’s also a scenario where both picks come in together: the Chiefs race out to a fast start at home, and the Jets keep throwing to Mitchell and running Allen late on, adding garbage-time points that push this over the number and keep them inside 10.

  • Best bet: Jets +10 (-110)
  • Jets vs Chiefs moneyline pick: Chiefs (odds to come)
  • Jets vs Chiefs pick against the spread: Jets +10
  • Jets vs Chiefs over/under pick: Over 45.5 (-110)
