2026-27 Premier League Relegation Contenders
Hull City (-500)
Hull City’s promotion back to the Premier League at the end of May following a playoff final win against Middlesbrough was a huge shock. The Tigers were among the favorites for the drop at the start of campaign, and were forced to be competitive despite being under a transfer embargo. Despite upsetting the odds last term, a season of struggle is expected based on the underlying metrics. Hull conceded the fourth-highest number of goals in the Championship last term, and they ranked second-worst for expected points in 2025-26.
Coventry City (-133)
Frank Lampard leads Coventry City into the Premier League return following a 25-year absence. The Sky Blues were undeniably the best team in the second tier last season, scoring a remarkable 94 goals. Carl Rushworth is a standout signing for the newcomers after excelling in goal during the promotion-winning campaign. Big-money arrivals, such as Caleb Yirenkyu, should be capable of taking this step up to the Premier League in their stride, but how they adapt their style following promotion will likely be key to any chance that they have of survival.
Ipswich Town (-133)
Ipswich are back in the Premier League after achieving promotion at the first time of asking. It has been all change this summer, with Kieran McKenna replaced by former Wolves and Bournemouth boss Gary O’Neil. Unlike the other promoted teams, the Tractor Boys have banked on EPL experience with signings of Issa Diop and Sasa Lukic. They look better prepared to stay in the division this time around than they did a couple of years ago, while Chuba Akpom and Daizen Maeda should both be capable of scoring goals at this level.
Dark Horse to Consider – Newcastle United (+800)
Newcastle United haven’t been missed in the relegation betting odds. The Magpies bid farewell to Eddie Howe after he announced his departure in the middle of pre-season following a breakdown in transfer policy after the departures of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali. Matthias Jaissle is inexperienced at this level, meaning that his appointment comes with questions to answer.
Newcastle have also replaced their outgoing stars with unproven players in the Premier League, meaning that stars such as Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, and Aladji Bamba will all require time to settle in. However, a sign of their issues was evident following a 3-1 loss against Everton in pre-season. There will be no time to settle in for Jaissle, with challenging fixtures against Liverpool, Tottenham, and Bournemouth set in the first three rounds.
