Match Preview
Mexico have been one of the most consistent teams in the Nations League since its introduction to the CONCACAF schedule. However, they are yet to win the event after losing in the final in each of the last two editions.
In 2024-25, they will be looking to go one better. Javier Aguirre’s team come into this first leg in solid recent form after going five without defeat. Huge confidence would have been gained from their 2-0 win over the United States last month.
This showdown also represents a rematch from the Nations League in 2023, as Mexico suffered a 2-0 defeat in Honduras, before winning by the same scoreline on home soil and squeaking through via a penalty shootout.

Just as they did in the previous edition, Honduras needed to secure their progression in the Nations League via the opening group stage. The nation avoided a shock departure, finishing second ahead of Nicaragua on goal difference.
Honduras won two of their four matches, and were the highest scoring nation in Group B with either goals. However, their recent form would be a slight concern ahead of this showdown.
They come into this first leg after suffering defeats in two of their last five matches, with their most recent loss coming on September 10 on home soil against Jamaica.
