Match Preview

The final week of action in the CONCACAF Nations League is staged this week, as four of the leading nations in the region battle for momentum ahead of the start of the prestigious Gold Cup. Canada is the clear favorite to progress through to the final in this semi-final, as the nation looks to continue their fine development after capturing the imagination at the 2022 World Cup.

Canada eased through to this stage after topping Group C, as they won three from four matches. Their only loss came on the road against Honduras. The nation was among the highest scorers in the opening stage, as they netted eleven goals, with four of those coming in their most recent match against Honduras.

Panama will be the huge outsiders in the betting for this semi-final clash on Thursday evening. However, they shouldn’t be taken lightly by the Canadians this week, as the nation didn’t concede a single goal in qualifying for the finals. They won three of their four matches in the group stage, with their only dropped points coming in the form of a 0-0 draw.

But, this is still a step up in opposition for Panama, and they have struggled against highly ranked nations throughout their history. However, they should come into this match in good confidence after returning to international action with a victory against Nicaragua on Saturday.

Panama vs Canada Prediction

Interestingly, seven of the previous 13 matches between these sides have ended in draws, which could be a realistic outcome based on Panama’s excellent defensive record. Canada has won just once in the previous five matches between the sides, with the previous clash ending in a 1-0 win for Panama last year. A chance will be taken on the draw after 90 minutes, before Canada claim victory in extra-time.
