Event Preview

The Canadian Grand Prix is the eighth stop on the Formula 1 calendar this year, and Red Bullā€™s dominance has been clear to see throughout the season to this point. No other constructor has recorded a race win so far this term, with Verstappen landing five wins, and Sergio Perez taking victory on two occasions.

Verstappenā€™s dominance continued in Barcelona in the previous round, as he finished over 15 seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton. His championship advantage was also extended, with teammate and closest rival Perez finishing down in fourth. The Canadian Grand Prix was first staged in 1978, with a total of 70 laps being completed to make up the 305.27km race distance.

There are two DRS zones to assist with overtaking, with both being located inside the second sector. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton hold the joint record for the most wins in the event, while Verstappen claimed a first race win last year when the Canadian Grand Prix returned to the schedule after a three-year absence.

Mercedes could be getting closer to the pace at this stage, as they achieved a double-podium finish in Barcelona, with Hamilton taking second and George Russell finishing third. They could be set to achieve podium finishes once again in Canada, with Aston Martin and Ferrari both appearing well off the pace in Catalonia.

Canadian Grand Prix Prediction

Once again, it looks challenging to overlook Verstappen when it comes to the race winner in Spain. However, we were encouraged by the signs from the two Mercedes drivers in Barcelona, and we could see them achieving another double podium to show that they are moving in the right direction.
