Event Preview
A slightly unusual race weekend is set for this weekend, as the Bahrain Grand Prix is staged outside of Bahrain due to the Iran war. Instead, F1 fans will get to see action at the Sepang International Circuit for the first time since 2017. This track will see the field cover a distance of 191.530 miles, with a total of 57 laps being completed.
An unpredictable element to the weekend is the lack of experience that many of the drivers will have of the track, with Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton finishing on the podium in the last edition of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The increased pressure will come on the shoulders of championship leader Kimi Antonelli this weekend. Antonelli could only finish fifth at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last weekend, meaning that George Russell’s win has seen the championship advantage diminish to 66 points.
It was an important win for Russell, marking the first time since Austria that he had won a Grand Prix. Many of the other contenders to the championship lost ground, with Lewis Hamilton finishing sixth and reigning world champion Lando Norris crashing out.
McLaren’s misery was compounded after Oscar Piastri made a mistake at turn one to drop outside of the points. Max Verstappen was excellent in Baku, finishing second for the second weekend running, and concluding the race just 0.196 seconds behind Russell.
Isack Hadjar also cemented an excellent weekend for Red Bull by claiming a second podium for the team on his return from a wrist injury. Haas also enjoyed a rare positive weekend, with Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon finishing in the top ten.

Experience at this track could count for a lot this weekend, meaning that Antonelli may be vulnerable after mistakes have begun to creep into his driving. Therefore, Max Verstappen could prove to be a value selection to go one better than his recent runner-up finishes in Spain and Azerbaijan.
